The Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority (SHFA) has indicated that it will “..not be proceeding at the moment” with the proposed A-Maze garden installation on Pyrmont Bridge.  For now, the bridge will now remain clear for safe passage of walkers and riders.

Our campaign outlined how the proposed 180m long, 6m wide A-Maze installation would introduce hazards for walkers and riders on the bridge.  Pyrmont Bridge conveys approximately 70,000 walking and riding trips each weekday and is identified as a key cycling corridor in the NSW Government’s Sydney’s Cycling Future blueprint.  Members on all sides of Parliament including Leader of the Opposition’s Luke Foley and the Government’s own Roads and Maritime Services Minister Duncan Gay raised concerns with the proposal.

We have extended an invitation to SHFA and the Planning Minister to work constructively with them on improving access and safety on the Bridge including the ramp connecting to the King St cycleway.

Pyrmont Bridge was merely the wrong location for an otherwise great idea.  We’d certainly support SHFA bringing more greenery and sustainability into the Darling Harbour precinct.
