Wilson Street Bike Highway at risk
The Redfern Waterloo Authority has a DA on show for the Black Smith Workshed next to Wilson St. As part of this proposal there is a car park attached.
BikeSydney have made a submission on this raising objections to the DA. The main points are
• the proposed use of the Blacksmiths’ Workshop as a car park encourages the use of cars and draws car traffic onto a quiet backstreet that is a currently an important bicycle thoroughfare;
• the Statement of Environmental Effects fails to properly recognise the potential traffic impacts,thus the proposed plan for traffic management is inadequate;
• if the additional car parking spaces are approved the safety of people travelling by bicycle will not be improved unless the angle and parallel parking on the southern side of Wilson Street be removed; and
• the traffic management on site and particularly the flow and interaction of people on bikes with cars is not well managed.

Great submission - as one of the cyclists using Wilson Street on a daily basis I’d like to say thanks for speaking up for us!
