Bourke Street Bicycle Route - Extended Deadline 6 June
Due to a strong effort by residents in the vicinity of Bourke St - the deadline has been extended to the 6th of June. BikeSydney recommends if you have not placed your submission in, you do so. Also you should visit the City of Sydney website and read all the documentation on this.
Also the CoS have now produced some FAQ’s - you should read this so you know what is actually happening.
People are saying that all the trees in the street are being destroyed, infact 4 trees are slated for removal (out of 500). There are some other trees (16) that will be pruned and at a last resort removed.
The CoS are holding a series of consultation meetings. It woud be great to get large number of cyclists to these (It does clash with the Ride of Silence)

I personally have taken a few calls from residents on this. The biggest issue that has been said to me is about the loss of car parking. Somehow these people seem to think that they own a 2 metre x 6 metre plot of land outside their house - bizarre.
Anyway please read all the documentation and also write to the council.

Ride of Silence - May 24
You should be aware that the Ride of Silence is Saturday week, May 24 from 10:00 at the Archibald Fountain in Hyde Park. The route goes through the
CBD and then through the inner east and west, finishing at Parliament House for a wreath laying ceremony. Given recent events and the gain in
momentum, it is imperative that we all attend and bring as many of our mates along as humanely possible.
Volunteers Needed
We need some help from volunteers to act as marshals (sort of) on the day to keep the ride together. We need to keep the tail moving along and to
prevent the front from riding off into the distance. You’ll get to wear a pretty safety vest with a ROS logo.
We also need some “official” photographers. We have one (thanks Phuong) but we’d like a couple more.
We need wreaths, so either make one or have whip around and get one from local florist.
If you can help with either of the above, email me.
Flyers and posters can be downloaded from the NRCA’s site:
http://www.mynrca.com.au/ros.html
Print and distribute to all an sundry.
Spread the word! We want all cyclists there, including commuters, rec riders, weekend warriors, roadies and mountain bikers.

Another NSW State Govenment Disgrace
In case people have not heard. The NSW State Government are to remove the only bike lanes located in the City of Sydney. Yes, unbelievable. We have a local council (City of Sydney) who wants to increase cycling and a backwards looking state government.
The issue is that under the guise of the papal visit they want to place bus lanes down Park St, without effecting traffic. the only way that the state government believes they can do this is by removing the bike lanes, which of course is untrue. The State Government did not even have the nerve to inform the council till the last minute and then only gave them 48 hours to respond.
BikeSydney released a press release regarding this - Press Release Park St.
Also here is what the City of Sydney had proposed and obviously has been rejected by the NSW State Government.
