New Bike Parking Rings
BikeSydney with BikEast have been consulting with the City of Sydney over the past year in regards to the new bike parking rings that attach to existing street signage (eg no parking signs). Glebe have started to have their rings installed.

I guess these give added protection against thieves who pull the pole out of the ground, or raise your bike up over the top of the sign. But does that happen very often?
Do these rings have any other benefit?

What are the advantages of the rings over just locking to the pole? eg. Have thieves somehow been lifting bikes with longer chains off these poles?

The advanatges are that the bike can now rest against the pole making it harder to fall over. Also it sends a message that bikes are welcome in the city of Sydney. This is just an initial rollout and a lot of other councils are watching closely with several planning their own versions.

Much easier to lean up against - especially if you have one bike on each side. More please!!
