King St Cycleway Now Open

This week saw the opening of the first dedicated cycleway in the City of Sydney (CoS).  This cycleway provides access from the Sussex and King St end of the Pyrmont Bridge to Castlereagh St. This is also part of a wider program where the King St cycle way is connected up to Macquarie St.

But there has been issues with the cycleway. The lights phasing is incorrect. So cyclists now have to wait an extra 3-5 minutes to get to the top of the path (all of 2 blocks). The lights should at least give equal priority to cyclists as motorists. This has also been reported in the SMH

BikeSydney have been in contact with the CoS about this and they are talking to the RTA about this issue as traffic lights are the responsibility of the RTA. BikeSydney have also sent a letter to the RTA asking for answers.

The CoS must also be congratulated for this bold new design. Remember that the CoS are planning to spend 70 million on cycling infrastructure over the next 4 years and of course BikeSydney will be there to make sure this sort of thing (phasing of lights) hopefully does not happen again.

When will we have a cycle path from the Harbour Bridge to Elizabeth Street ? If one exists, where do I find the info? The RTA maps are impossible to read…..

    Thanks
