Bike Shorts

Bikeshorts1

We had a great night at the Alexandria Hotel on Friday 4 April. About 100 cyclists rocked up for some big free bike love.  It was good to see lots of folk from the Bike Film Festival. A huge thanks to Gilbert for organising the social ride from the city to the Alex via some eye-popping alley graff, to Michelle and Paul for coordinating the films, to Jen for the photos, and to everyone who helped spread the word about the event.

We’ll be having a few more film nights this year - next one will be in July to celebrate the Tour de France. Make sure you’re signed up to the Bike Sydney mail-list for alerts.

New Rides Network : Guttermonkey.org has Launched

From the Gutter Monkey Crew

A new bike website “http://guttermonkey.org” was released tonight in Sydney, Australia to help people all over the world find riders they might like to ride with, and routes they can follow safely, using all the valuable knowledge that’s trapped inside the brains of experienced bike riders everywhere.

To do this, we’re hoping for your participation, because you’re the expert when it comes to your ride.

  • Every back street you take and shortcut you ride represents the very best field research that money cannot buy.
  • We want to gather that knowledge and get it into the hands of people who would love to ride each day, if only they knew how

Right now, guttermonkey.org is new, so we need lots and lots of bikers to contribute their rides to our rideFinder database as soon as possible, to start spreading the joy.

It’ll only take you a few minutes because we’ve made it really easy, and you can’t begin to imagine how useful that information is to someone who’s never ridden their bike to work before.

They can use guttermonkey.org to make contact with other people who are also interested in the same rides. They can swap ideas. They can ride together and feel safety in numbers. It’s not rocket science. It’s a community coming together, and we hope you can be a leader of our community by the simple act of sharing your knowledge with other folks out there.

Hundreds of gallons of coffee have been sacrificed to bring you guttermonkey.org. Team Guttermonkey is a community group (hopefully with a little more flair than most) and our guiding principle is to get millions more people all over the world riding their bikes on a daily basis. Bold? You bet.

We hope you like it. Especially the bit about the monkey
