Bike Parking Audit
BikeSydney along with BikEast are conducting a bike parking audit for the City of Sydney. Anyway we will need some volunteers over the next few weeks to prioritise the locations for the new bike parking rings. (See photo in an earlier article).
BikeSydney are doing King St, Newtown tomorrow (Sun 22nd July) - meeting at 8.30am outside the Newtown Town Hall. If you want to help out come along, bring a digital camera if you have one, something to write on and a pen.

CoS - World Environment Day Film Nights 4-5 June
Celebrate World Environment Day this June with the City of sydney’s Film Nights at the Chauvel Cinema, Paddington.
Featuring two inspiring movies - about cycling and the oil industry - the film nights aim to engage you on the issues of transport and environment - to help develop a vision for our City that will ensure a sustainable future. Join in discussions after the film about the kind of Sydney you want to see in 20 years time.
Monday June 4 - Detour De France
Three Aussie larrikins follow the Tour De France ‘05 and get up close and personal with luminaries including Lance Armstrong and celebrity spectators such as singer Sheryl Crow and director Ron Howard. Never before have you seen cycling action like this, both on and off the road!
Accompanying the main feature will be a vintage educational film about bicycle safety. Drinks, canapés and conversation follow the films.
Tuesday June 5 - A Crude Awakening: the Oil Crash Movie
This fascinating film is guaranteed to make you think. An award-winning documentary on the oil industry and the incredible impact it has on the global economy, industry and the environment. Learn about how scarily dependent we are on this dwindling resource. Drinks, canapés and discussions follow the film.

World Environment Day Cycle Breakfasts
Get on your bike this World Environment Day and join the City of Sydney at two breakfasts especially for cyclists this June, 5th.
To thank cyclists for keeping another car off the road, the City is providing a free, hearty breakfast and conversation with fellow cyclists at two venues across Sydney.
Find out more about the plans the City has to make it easier and safer to cycle on our streets as part of its ten year cycle strategy.
And, as the short winter days close in, it’s important to be visible on the road. The City has a limited number of safety kits to hand out on the morning.

Cycling in the City of Sydney
After many years of cycling being treated as a third rate citizen, the council and the Councilors are now traeting cycling seriously and backing it up with great plpans and some real dollars. The CoS now has a bike plan, this is a great result. But now the hard work really starts - we need the plan actioned. BikeSydney with BIKEast are on the cycling steering committee.

The City of Sydney

The City continues to pursue its vision of meeting local resident needs whilst advancing Sydney’s global position as Australia’s premier city, through the implementation of a range of services, programs and initiatives directed to residents, businesses and visitors.”
The City of Sydney was also part of the current NSW Governments attempt to merge council areas. South Sydney Council nolonger exists, swallowed by the City of Sydney and parts of Leichhardt Council were given to the City of Sydney as well.
