BikeSydney are greatly interested to hear from candidates for the local government elections about their position and views about cycling.

Please would you respond to the following questions so that we can circulate your responses to our members and publicise the answers on the BikeSydney website.
1. What is your position on investment to improve the liveability and sustainability of local neighbourhoods?
2. What would you do to make it safe enough to ride a bicycle in your local neighbourhood?
3. If elected, how would you promote the benefits of cycling in your area?
4. What do you think of the pace of implementation of the current Cycling Strategy?

So anyway We have sent this to the Greens, Clovers Team, Shayne Mallard from the Liberals and the Independants.

Now Labor have their contact details suppressed on the Elecoral Commission website and of the Liberal Party only Shayne Mallards appears, no other is available. On the flipside The Greens and all of Clovers team have contact emails and phone numbers. For me this says a lot about the two ‘big’ parties and what they really think of the people in the area.

Back onto the election can I just say it has been great working with a progressive council. I for one tried to work with Frank Sartor and Lucy Turnbull, both either ignoring or just giving lip service to cycling in the City of Sydney.

Live Green - Ideas to green your life

BikeSydney is a volunteer orgainsation, so if you can lend a hand for an hour or two on the day at the BikeSydney stall that would be great. Mystery Tour: An invitation of submit images to an exhibition of cycle touring photography

Anyone who has toured by bicycle knows that it’s often the unexpected encounters and unplanned detours that become the highlights of a cycle tour. At a suitable distance, even the challenge of overcoming a mechanical breakdown in the middle of nowhere, can become a tale of ingenuity and heroic triumph.

For this exhibition, we are asking you to dig a little deeper into your collections of cycle touring images (no sunsets or posing with road signs) to reveal some of those unexpected moments.

We are looking for images that document chance meetings with friendly (or unfriendly) locals; bush-mechanic-style innovation in the face of mechanical tragedies and magical places discovered by getting totally lost. Images selected for the exhibition will be printed as oversized postcards with the photographer’s statement on the back.

SUBMIT: UP TO 10 LOW RES JPEG IMAGES [1mb each] FOR PREVIEW. Each photograph should be accompanied by a short statement (max. 20 words) about the image.?

Mystery Tour will be part of ‘road’ -  a series of art shows tying in with the International Bicycle Film Festival, bought to you by BIKESydney and Cheeky Transport.

King St Construction Document

For those working in the city (or not for that matter) there will be a short ride to the gallery via a suitable grog shop to make the necessary procurements - meet at Martin Place at 5:45pm for a 6pm departure.

These werre the bike lanes on Park St in the Sydney CBD, the only bike lanes in the city. They connect to the now disgointed William St bike lanes. But as of now they are no longer, as part of the papal visit this area becomes a bus lane.

Now in a community consulataion meeting it has been stated that the bike lanes would be restored - what BikeSydney want to know is when? So in that we have sent a letter to Minister Watkins, who is responsible for this red stripe asking that question. Read our letter here.

Also the City of Sydney did have an idea for Park St, but obviously the government chose to ignore this.

BikeSydney submitted our concerns to the RWA, and we will continue to monitor the progress of the Concept Plan.

With the theme “Revolution - Forms that Turn”, it’s no great suprise that bicycles feature in the works for Sydney’s Biennale.

Shaun Gladwell’s Ghost Rider (2008) is a sculptural amalgam of mountain bicycles, sound and video.

Shaun’s work is one of many on Cockatoo Island. There’s a myriad of atistic works to have a look at on the island and free ferries from the MCA.
