Ride Your City

Ride the City Sydney, an online route finding service, has just launched in Sydney. The system uses bike routing data from Open Street Map (OSM), the volunteer effort to map the world.

We’re proud to have helped prepare the Sydney data on OSM but there’s still much work to do and we hope that everyone might consider doing a bit of work to improve the map in their own neighborhood.

Having just launched Ride the City in Sydney, there will inevitably be missing bike routes on the map. But as with other cities, as users provide feedback and add information to the map, the routing will improve.

Ride the City have put together a short video to walk through a few of the features of Ride the City and to show you how to edit OSM so that bike lanes and paths in your local neighborhoods can be shown correctly on the map.

The guys behind Ride the Street have also launched Melbourne and Adelaide at the same time – so updates may be a little slow – but hang in there and please give them feedback about the site and the routes.

We think it’s an exciting development for Sydney.
