City proposes new cycling projects
On Monday 29 November the City of Sydney Cycling Implementation Team will present an update report to council committee on the implementation of the Cycle Strategy. It outlines the current status of infrastructure and other projects; the current route planning and prioritisation; and introduces the Streetshare Strategy (formerly known as “Enabling Cycling” or behavioural change strategy) with a list of its recommended projects.
BIKEsydney has played a role in developing the Streetshare Strategy and we commend the city’s commitment to grow the number of people cycling in Sydney.
Attachments include the Streetshare Strategy final report; a map of the high priority regional routes which are our current implementation focus; and the bike network directional signage strategy which we will now start implementing, too.
The report seeks council approval for budget to employ a project coordinator for the Streetshare projects; funds to start the projects; and allocates extra funding to the matching grants budget so that we can give out lots of matching grants to fund bike project ideas that people have. The next round of grants will be in February (with cash available in May) and a workshop is planned for late January to assist interested people.
You can find the report and attachments as item 3 here.
If you are interested to watch, or want to show your support at the council committee meeting, see you at 4:30pm on Monday at the Council Chamber, upstairs in the Town Hall.
